Supreme Court collegium recommends 11 permanent Judges for Punjab and Haryana High Court

In a recent development, the Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, has put forth a list of recommendations for the appointment of permanent judges. This list includes 11 additional judges from the Punjab and Haryana high court and seven from the Allahabad high court.

Collegium decision made public

The collegium, consisting of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna, convened on a Thursday to make these significant recommendations. The details of their decision were promptly uploaded to the official Supreme Court website.

Among the notable individuals recommended for the role of permanent judges in the Punjab and Haryana high court are justices Nidhi Gupta, Sanjay Vashisth, Tribhuvan Dahiya, Namit Kumar, Harkesh Manuja, Aman Chaudhary, Naresh Singh, Harsh Bunger, Jagmohan Bansal, Deepak Manchanda, and Alok Jain. This recommendation comes after the unanimous agreement of the Punjab and Haryana high court collegium on May 20, 2023.

Consultations and approval

The resolution stated that the Chief Ministers and Governors of Punjab and Haryana have both concurred with the recommendations. Following the Memorandum of Procedure, judges from the Supreme Court familiar with the workings of the Punjab and Haryana high court were consulted to assess the suitability of these judges for permanent appointments.
